Author Guidelines

Voprosy Literatury covers issues of modern Russian literature, the history of Russian and foreign literature, and literary theory. The complete list of topics is here for your reference. The journal does not publish poetry, fiction, or social and political features. An exception can be made for commented works from writers’ archives.

Voprosy Literatury does not reprint any materials previously published in other journals or uploaded online. If the author fails to notify that the offered material has already been published, the editorial board ceases cooperation with her/him altogether.

Co-authorship can be extended only to the persons who made a significant input in the article. Neither consultants, nor academic supervisors can be named as co-authors.

The editorial office does not accept publication fees from the authors. A royalty is paid only when the paper was specifically solicited by the editors.

Submissions must be made electronically to voplit@mail.ru. Submissions are processed for two months. The editorial board always informs the authors about its decision. Submissions are reviewed by the in-house editorial panel and editors, as well as peer reviewers (more about the review and revision process can be found in section II. Review and Revision of Submissions).

The key criteria for publication of a paper include originality of the research, its relevance to the problems of contemporary literary studies, in other words, to the topical issues of literature. The main flaws of rejected papers are descriptiveness, derivativeness, lack of novelty, poor language, and a style inundated with clichés or gratuitous terminology.

The editorial board may approach the author with a proposal to revise, reduce, or expand the article. If the draft is accepted for publication, an editor may ask the author to make semantic and stylistic changes to the draft; editors may also make the changes on their own once such alterations are agreed with the author.

The author is responsible for the accuracy of facts and quotations. Should the editorial office discover that a draft contains deliberately unmarked quotes (plagiarism), collaboration with the author is ceased altogether. If factual inaccuracies or copyright infringements are revealed after the publication, the author must put in a refuting or corrective statement in the journal.

A scholarly article must be accompanied by bibliographic references. Where necessary, information about grants should be included.
